  1. Jaime: Opening comments
    1. Messages on behalf of Co-Champion Rossio:
      1. Gary wishes everyone a happy New Year and all great things in 2023.
      2. 2023 Tenets: send any suggested amendments to co-champions for review.
      3. He says there’s a VA Hiring Fair on Feb. 4, from 8am – 3pm for a number of clinical positions at the Kearny Mesa VA Clinic.
      4. The 16th National VA Summer Sports Clinic will be in San Diego June 4-9. Feb 10 is the deadline to apply. To register for the 2023 NVSSC, visit www.summersportsclinic.va.gov to download required documents. Eligible Veterans must register and submit their required documents at this link: NVSSC Medical Form Submission.

      1. San Diego Gives: 24 hours to give local is set for Sept 7
        1. Early Registration is Feb. 1 – Feb. 28, and the cost starts at $25 for small nonprofits. The cost goes up March 1.
        2. San Diego Gives University is underway and offers an array of resources like style guides, toolkits, expert support, office hours, marketing support and more.

        1. Every Friday from 9am – 10am. It’s a free open forum, and it’s open to nonprofit professionals. Contact Hannah for additional information

      6. Grant Opportunities
        1. The California Arts Council (CAC) is accepting applications for their Creative Youth Development program. Deadline: January 26, 2023
        2. The S. Mark Taper Foundation is accepting Letters of Inquiry (LOI) from organizations that work in Arts, Civic Affairs, Education, Environment, Health & Social Services. Deadline: February 1.
        3. Escondido Community Foundation (ECF) is accepting proposals for projects that invest in & celebrate the City of Escondido. The LOI iDue Jan 23. Grants range is $15,000 to $40,000.
        4. Mental Health Fund: Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that provide prevention or early intervention mental health services OR mental health counseling for youth (ages 21 and under). Programs must serve youth in North County San Diego. Grant range is $2,500-$6,000. DEADLINE: March 1st, 2023. https://coastalfoundation.org/grants/

    4. VA Maternity Care: Melanie Krupa-Kelly
      1. Been involved with it for 9 years
      2. They outsource all our patients out to the community (Sharpe, UCSD, Scripps, Palomar, Pomerado)
      3. Women just sign up at the VA with their DD-214, then a consult is entered after they become pregnant
      4. They are with them from the start to breastfeeding and through the postpartum period (prenatal care, ultrasounds, lab tests, and more are covered, they get free maternity bras, sleep pillow)
      5. Please spread the word about these wonderful maternity benefits

      1. Art classes for the next 6 months
      2. They’re trying to get the VA to recognize the healing benefits of art more
      3. The word is spreading, and now they continue to seek more funding
      4. Pop-up art cafes involve us finding an area that wants to get involved, then finding local artists who want to display their work. It builds camaraderie of community. It’s getting artists out of their head and out of their bed and out of their house.
      5. Mental wellness is a healing journey. Their peer support specialists are now certified.
      6. They had vets display at the La Jolla Playhouse
      7. Vet Art studio in Vista does ceramic, mosaic (on Tuesdays 10-1pm), glass, etc. There’s a new Spring schedule. Wednesday is open 10-3, Saturday is open studio 10-3. Please spread the word.
      8. VETART is participating in the SkillBridge program
      9. VETART is in the third year of their $3 million grant
      10. Tony LoBue is urgently looking for housing in Tijuana and would appreciate any assistance. He’s also in need of more back surgeries.
    6. UCSD Veteran Focus Group: Linda Puebla
      1. They’re going into populations not typically involved (veteran, African American, LGBT community).
      2. The focus group to learn how to connect with the veterans community, what barriers there are, etc. It’s Jan 24 3:30-5pm on Zoom, and it’s part of a three-year project.

      9. Tony LoBue discussed deported Vets. He encourages participating in pop-up art cafes and practicing 15 minutes of creativity everyday
